Our Committee is formed at our AGM in early summer.
The Committee over the Summer months decide on a Show and confirm a Production Team (Director, Musical Director, Choreographer) for the upcoming year.
Our Show is staged during the February Secondary School Mid Term break in the Ballinrobe Secondary School.
BMS Shows are typically ran from Sunday – Saturday of the Mid Term with 7 – 8 performances.
The number of Shows staged depends on if a matinee is suitable or not for the chosen show.
If you are interested on being on stage:
The Show and Audition dates (for named parts) will be announced on our Facebook page “Ballinrobe Musical Society” or on this website in Summer/Autumn. Typically we aim to hold our Auditions for named parts in early September. We do not hold auditions for our Chorus. Here’s an overview of what’s involved for On-Stage members:
Typically rehearse as per schedules provided from our Director, Musical Director, and Choreographer. Schedules are communicated with the successful candidates via our secretary.
Chorus singing rehearsals typically take place one evening per week with our Musical Director on Wednesdays in the Parish Centre, located in the Church Car Park coming from the Cornmarket area of Ballinrobe town. Singing rehearsals usually take place from October with men arriving at 8:00 pm and women at 8:30pm. Last year for our first meeting, instead of going straight into rehearsals we held a “meet/greet” so we all could all catch up after our summer break. This was also a nice opportunity to welcome new members to our Chorus. Please watch out for our events on facebook as we usually set up an event for our first chorus rehearsal.
Dance rehearsals depending on the show (Chorus numbers/involvement in acts) can take place on one or two weekday evenings. Typically we begin with one evening per week. Dance rehearsals start a few weeks after singing rehearsals. You will be provided with our Choreographers schedule from our secretary. The Dance rehearsals can take place in the Parish Centre or in the auditorium of Ballinrobe Secondary School, on the Convent Road. If there are scheduling changes made by our production team, our secretary will inform you. We also set up a private Facebook group too for society members to help keep everyone up-to-date.
Please check out our public Facebook page “Ballinrobe Musical Society” for more information regarding Chorus starting dates and remember we were all new comers at some stage, we are always delighted to have new people come along.
If you are interested in being involved behind the scenes:
There are plenty of ways you can be involved….
Before the show…..
We need are always looking for new Committee members, please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for our AGM date and come along to join our Committee. Building our set typically begins in the winter time, we value help painting our set, sourcing props to set our scenes. We always welcome assistance with fundraising (acquiring sponsorship/sourcing prizes for half time nightly raffles). We hold an annual fundraising table quiz, please keep an eye on our Facebook events for dates.
When the show is on…..
We need loads of help back stage with our set with sometimes swift scene changes required, placement of props, help front of house, selling raffle tickets, selling show tickets, seating people, serving refreshments, help with traffic control/parking and much much more.
When the show is over…..
Chorus and Back stage Crew need help returning the Community School back to normal so that school can resume post our amazing week.
Our Society’s production really is community undertaking and we are so appreciative to everyone who helps out and we are always delighted to have new people involved. Being involved in BMS is a very enjoyable experience and a great way to meet people. An added bonus is that the winter months are over without you realising.
